If Rebecca Adlington winning not just one but two Olympic medals at London 2012 has shown us anything then it’s that swimming is bang-on-trend, and, by default, all swimwear and related fashion accessories are so hot you’ll need to jump into the blue to cool off! But when it comes to fashion it seems that what goes around comes around and around and around. We’ve seen the 80s return via neon colours for Summer 2012 and now Annie Haak Designs looks to the future where some upcoming swimwear trends are set to channel the past.

Blasts from the past

The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013 Show in Miami Beach revealed that there are plenty of 1950s and 1960s influences on next year’s must-have swimwear. Everything from curve-accentuating two-pieces circa 40s Cuba to nautical stripes on 50s style high-wasted bikini bottoms and 60s inspired hipster wastes and psychedelic florals made an appearance. There were even glimpses of the neon styling reintroduced this year from the 1980s - plenty of hot pink fashion accessories were spotted on the catwalk.

Annie’s on-trend

Yet again, Annie Haak Designs is at the forefront of upcoming fashion trends. Our perfectly pretty Sterling Silver Pearl and Heart Earrings would make the ideal accompaniment to 40s/50s vintage swimwear chic while pieces from our Candy Pop Flower and Rosary Cross ranges in our Summer 2012 sterling silver jewellery collection would finish of 60s-80s inspired looks fabulously. Meanwhile, our summery Sterling Silver Daisy Chain Necklace or a hip-skimming Sterling Silver Hip Happy Hip Charm Necklace worn on the waste would bring your beach-look straight into 2013.

Culture vultures

However, the designers showing at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013 Show kept things fresh by using crochet, foliage prints and ruffles to compliment the bygone styling. A multitude of cultural influences were seen throughout the swimwear designs. Homage was even paid to the Wild West with cowgirl-themed denim-printed swimmers and accessories complete with accents of animal print. Accents of Asia were also spotted in a black two-piece accessorised with a Chinese style headpiece showcased alongside traditional Chinese dancers.

Designer Tory Burch, who accessorised her swimwear with coordinating chunky necklaces, said that she was inspired by a trip to the Amalfi Coast: “I was drawn to all of the beautiful colours, from green and ivory to navy and pink.”

Jwellery designer Annie Haak can relate to these natural and cultural inspirations:

“I was first inspired to design sterling silver jewellery after visiting the Indonesian island of Bali. The people, the culture and the spirituality of the island as well as the Balinese artisan silversmiths drew me in and motivated me to create Annie Haak Designs jewellery. Three years later, I continue to be influenced by culture and natural beauty both abroad and here in the UK.”
