The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) recently named their fashion icon of the year as Johnny Depp. But the Annie Haak team was wondering, what do you think of Johnny’s style and the way he wears his jewellery?

The CFDA announced its nominees for its 2012 fashion awards this month and, along with revealing the names of the year’s best fashion designers, they picked Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp as their fashion icon.

Johnny Depp is well-known for having a natural, individualistic style, that doesn’t seem influenced by his Hollywood lifestyle but takes perhaps a little inspiration from his rockstar aspirations. He’s a man who likes to layer his clothing with tops and waistcoats for a casually trendy look and he looks cool when wearing multiple fashion accessories, specifically glasses and hats.

The way that Johnny Depp so comfortably and stylishly wears men’s jewellery has been commented on in the fashion press before. He’s often seen sporting a simple sterling silver necklace along with silver rings and friendship bracelets like our Tali Sterling Silver, Cord and Silk Friendship Bracelets. Of course in Pirates of the Caribbean, Depp’s character Captain Jack Sparrow was known for wearing his hair in braids containing brightly coloured ethnic beads and charms similar to those found in our gorgeous Sama Multi Tassel Bracelet. How does that float your boat?

However, if a female buccaneer is more your idea of a style icon, why not channel the style of the enigmatic Penelope Cruz who play’s Sparrow’s old flame? When starring in On Stranger Tides Penelope wore a necklace very similar to our Gili Lava Cross Necklace, handcrafted from lava of the active volcano Mount Agung in Bali. And what shipwrecked beauty would be without the Hip Happy Hip Necklace/Hipster Chain, as worn by ultimate beach babe Elle Macpherson?

We don’t know about Johnny Depp as a stand-alone style icon but those pirate types certainly know how to wear their jewellery and Annie Haak Designs can see that they also firmly believe in the more sterling silver jewellery the better!
