Have you heard about the Red Carpet Green Dress competition? No this isn’t when celebs emerge from a limo in emerald or chivy along the carpet in chartreuse, this is where designers compete to create fabulous dresses crafted from materials that are environmentally-friendly. What’s more fashion fans, the winning gown will be flaunted on the red carpet at the Oscars!

The annual Red Carpet Green Dress competition, launched by Suzy Cameron wife of James Cameron who brought us those brilliant blue Avatar folk, is now in its fourth year. Submissions will remain open until 5th November and the winning sustainable fashion design will be judged by a panel of expert judges, including the hit film director/producer and representatives from the fashion and eco industries. A top fashion designer will also join the judging panel and act as a mentor to the competition winner.

However, the main attraction of this competition for budding fashion designers has got to be the chance to see their creation hit the red carpet at one of the most glamorous events on the Hollywood calendar. At February’s Academy Awards, Missi Pyle of The Artist fame wore last year’s winning eco-dress – a flowing organic silk gown hand-dyed with natural mineral pigments and featuring recycled zip fastenings. Full details of the competition rules and a submission form can be found on the competition’s website.
