International Women’s Day 2023

In honour of International Women's Day, we asked our team about women who are inspirational to us.

Read about our female icons below:

Dr Hazel Wallace

Dr Hazel Wallace aka @thefoodmedic is my female inspiration.

Medical doctor and nutritionist, Hazel provides methods for women to protect and maximise their health in positive and empowering ways. She hosts a #1 rated health podcast and is author to three best selling books. One of which she wrote between shifts on the Covid ward! Her social media platforms are educational, honest and inspiring – there’s so much more Hazel has achieved and all at the age of 32.

My Friend Margaret

I think my friend Margaret inspires me to be a more positive and cheerful person.

She is 86 years old and suffers from very severe arthritis, brittle bone disease and is partially sighted but apart from always being in constant pain every time I see her, she is smiling and happy and always says she is fine and worries about how I am instead. I always come away feeling happier and more determined to not moan about trivial things that, when I think about them, are not really worth moaning about.

Sophie Taeuber-Arp

For this year’s IWD I am going to choose an artist that was recently exhibited at the Tate Modern Museum. Sophie Taeuber-Arp (1889–1943) was a Swiss crafts professional, teacher, architect, interior designer, painter, sculptor, performer, jewellery-maker and editor of an international art magazine.

Taeuber-Arp was one of the most successful and innovative artists of her time in a heavily male dominated scene. Excelling in so many different art forms, from textile design to embracing Dada by painting dynamic abstract environments and working on interior design projects, Taeuber-Arp never stopped creating art, even while on exile during the Second World War. Her passion for constant creation is inspiring to say the least and her work is now generally accepted as in the first rank of classical modernism.

My Mum

My mum inspires me everyday.

She has always been there for me and is ready and willing to help and support me at any time. She consistently puts other's need first, and always makes me laugh.

She has owned businesses, looked after elderly family members and would pick me up from school everyday. She is also one of the most fashionable women I know and always has a solution for everything. She also makes the best tea!
